About Newark
Newark is the largest city in the U.S state of New Jersey. Located in the heart of New Jersey's Gateway Region, Newark is the second largest city in the New York metropolitan area, approximately 8 miles west of Manhattan. Newark Liberty International Airport was the first municipal commercial airport in the United States and today one of its busiest.

Newark is the third-largest insurance center in the United States, after New York City and Hartford.

Parking in Newark
The Newark Parking Authority of the city of Newark (PACN) regulates the parking system in the city. The mission of the PACN is “to enable and ensure the free movement of traffic and relief of congestion on the street.”

Metered Parking in Newark
Following are the steps to follow while using the metered parking facility in the city of Newark:

  • Step 1: Payment: Quarters, Nickels and Dimes
  • Step 2: Note the pole or meter in FRONT of your car.
  • Step 3: Note the letter on meter or pole. If a pole is in front of your car, note the arrow on pole pointing to the meter you should input money in ;If in front of a meter, then note the letter if applicable
  • Step 4: Press letter on meter, input change and note time remaining If at a meter without a letter then simply input change and note time remaining

The city police only handle “overtime parking at meters” and can issue tickets. If you believe you were issued a ticket for a broken meter, please contact their office at 973-623-6335 within 24 hours.

Meter rates are in effect Monday-Saturday, 9am-6pm; unless posted otherwise. $.25=15 minutes (city wide)
