Los Angeles is a big city, the second largest in the US. It’s big enough that not only does it have the LA Galaxy as its soccer team, but also the Los Angeles Football Club, based at BMO Stadium. The genesis of Los Angeles FC was the demise of Chivas USA, with the new team being announced only three days later. Los Angeles Football Club was intended to be a placeholder name, but it soon became the official team name less than one year later. After BMO Stadium opened to the public on April 18, 2018, the team faced the Seattle Sounders FC and won 1-0 on April 29 for their first home game. The venue is the first open-air sports arena constructed in Los Angeles since 1962, when Dodger Stadium opened. LAFC maintains a rivalry with the LA Galaxy, titled “El Trafico” in homage to the city’s traffic congestion. The various fan clubs of Los Angeles FC are represented under the moniker of “The 3252”, named after the number of seats that have safe standing at the venue.
