Inwood
Situated at the northern end of Manhattan, the hilly neighborhood of Inwood is surrounded by water on three sides: the Hudson River to the west and the Harlem River to the north and east. Inland, it extends down to Dyckman Street and is rather tidily divided into an east and a west section by Broadway, which runs roughly down the middle.
Inwood is a place with roots in almost every sense of the word. It is, to begin with, known for having a close-knit community that is largely comprised of long-time residents. It is also home to two important markers of bygone eras: Dyckman House on Broadway at 204th Street, which is Manhattan's oldest farmhouse, and Inwood Hill Park at the western boundary, which is the island's only remaining natural forest and salt marsh. This neighborhood also has much to offer by way of more socially-oriented spots: from a farmer's market that takes place every Saturday on Isham Street, to football games in Baker Field, to nights-out close to the waterfront in establishments along Dyckman Street.
