About San Jose San Jose is the third-largest city in California, the tenth-largest in the U.S. San Jose is the largest city within Silicon Valley, which is a major component of the greater San Francisco Bay Area, a region of 7.6 million people and the sixth largest metropolitan area in the United States. It is the largest city in Northern California. San Jose, like most of the Bay Area, has a Subtropical Mediterranean climate. San Jose has 300+ days of sunshine!
The large concentration of high-technology engineering, computer, and microprocessor companies around San Jose has led the area to be known as Silicon Valley. As the largest city in the valley, San Jose has billed itself "the capital of Silicon Valley."
Parking in San Jose The Department of Transportation's Parking Program provides a comprehensive range of services to meet the needs of businesses, visitors, schools, and residents. Services include operation and maintenance of the city’s public parking facilities and on-street parking meters, and various parking compliance activities. The Parking Program also oversees the collection of fines from parking citations and the administrative review process for contested citations.
Metered Parking San Jose has approximately 2,600 on-street parking spaces. Half are located in the downtown area, and the other half are in the HP Arena, Japantown, San Jose State University, and the county civic center areas. The time limit for meters in San Jose varies from 12 minutes up to 4 hours, with the majority being set for one hour. The maximum time limit for a specific meter is indicated on the meter and by posted street signs.
Parking in Garages The City of San Jose operates and maintains eight parking garages and nine surface lots with a combined total of approximately 7,500 public parking spaces located primarily downtown. Monthly parking permits are available at many of the city’s downtown facilities.
Best Parking helps you choose the best suitable parking facility for off street parking via an interactive map. Most garages are suitable options for economical long term parking.
Enforcement The parking compliance program enforces posted parking regulations on a citywide basis in an effort to improve compliance with local and state parking regulations. Parking may be restricted for safety reasons, such as near a crosswalk, intersection, and on narrow or high volume roadways.
