ABOUT SPOKANE

Spokane Parking Guide

About Spokane Spokane is a city located in the Northwestern United States in the state of Washington. It is the largest city of Spokane County. The city of Spokane (then known as "Spokane Falls") was settled in 1871. Spokane has a dry summer continental climate. The area is typified by a very warm, arid climate during the summer months and a cold, snowy, and moist climate in the winter.

In Spokane, wood and food processing, printing and publishing, primary metal refining and fabrication, electrical and computer equipment, and transportation equipment are leaders in the manufacturing sector. Life in Spokane is heavily influenced by its climate and geographical location. Spokane experiences a four-season climate, and is close to dozens of lakes and rivers for swimming, boating, rafting, and fishing, as well as mountains for skiing, hiking, biking and sightseeing. Spokane's streets use a street grid that is oriented to the four cardinal directions. Generally, in Spokane the east-west roads are designated as avenues, and the north-south roads are referred to as streets.

Parking in Spokane The Parking Enforcement Division performs parking meter installation, maintenance, enforcement and money collection in addition to enforcing parking regulations throughout the City of Spokane.

Parking Meters are in operation from 8am to 7pm, Monday through Saturday, except on the following holidays: New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day (Fourth of July), Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and on the Monday following, or the Friday preceding said holidays where designated a national holiday for observance. Meters are also free on Sundays, however all Commercial Loading Zones, Passenger Loading Zones, and other parking violations are enforced as necessary.

The Parking Meters and Enforcement Section of the Street Department is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and collection of the 2,800+ parking meters located throughout the downtown, County Courthouse and Sacred Heart Hospital areas. Our crews also collect, sort, bag and deposit all of the coins from the meters.

Parking meter zones, commercial loading zones, and passenger loading zones are established to maintain a turnover of the limited on-street parking spaces available in an area. Occupying a Commercial Loading Zone without the proper permit displayed on the vehicle is a $30.00 violation. Meter bags can be leased for various periods of time to accommodate construction, maintenance and entertainment activities within the metered zones.

If you park at a meter, read the sign on it as rules vary depending on location and time of day. Parking garages and lots are conveniently located and you will find one within a few blocks of your destination. Ask an attendant if you have any questions.
