The City of Saint Paul, Minnesota, offers several popular entertainment options in a walkable area, from Roy Wilkins Auditorium to the Saint Paul RiverCentre, yet only Xcel Energy Center can offer sports, concerts and other large events all under one roof. The venue’s versatility can make it difficult to find easy Xcel Energy parking, but you can make it easier by booking ahead of time with BestParking. The venue is situated on the site of the demolished Saint Paul Civic Center, with construction commencing in June 1998 and the arena opening to the public in September 2000. Though the venue was built in order to house the Minnesota Wild of the NHL, it has been used in a wide variety of ways, including hosting concerts, the NCAA Frozen Four (2002, 2011 and 2018), a year-long stay by the Minnesota Lynx WNBA team, the NCHC Frozen Faceoff and high school hockey tournaments, among other activities. Famous artists who have performed at Xcel Energy Center include Shania Twain, Madonna, Metallica, Toby Keith, The Who, Ariana Grande, Weezer, Lady Gaga, Bob Dylan, Blink-182 and Fall Out Boy, among many others. The complex consisting of “the X”, Roy Wilkins Auditorium, and RiverCentre as a whole received APEX/ASTM certification, LEED certification and Green Globes certification, the first campus in the world to do so. With such a wide variety of things to do and see within a popular area, it can be troublesome to find convenient Xcel Energy Center parking unless you book ahead of the event with BestParking.
